Getting in very early on this one. I only started one match thread last season and we won 4-0 so here’s hoping my luck continues especially as it’s such a huge fixture. Not just because it’s the first game of the season or because it’s the first game for JS, not just because the pressure is on us to beat a team, at home, that many have tipped to be relegated but because this team needs to win for its fragile confidence. To get its supporters to forget about gardening leave and divided opinions. My anxiety levels are way higher than normal for this game and with the injuries we’ve accumulated so early in the season I don’t think they’re going to drop, especially if Dunne and Cook are unavailable.

You wait for months for the season to start and this is what you get; a knot in the pit of your stomach.

I’m going for a rollercoaster 3-2 win. Chair with the first.

C’mon you soooopahhooooopsah.

The only observation i have from todays game is that Celar makes lee Charles look like Paulo Rossi and our manager looks like the sort of handsome waspish cad that would romance 'Rising Damps' Miss Jones and then rinse her of her post office account of her life savings.

King Tito's Glove.

Guys, not one mention of our injury list! A team cobbled together did well in the first half especially. Dunne, Varanne were really missed , let's judge things when the full squad are back!

When will that be tho?

Good God

What a fricking miserable bunch qpr fans on here truly are.

From nearly all on here you would think we are doomed for relegation.

Makes me wonder as to keep posting on here.

Today for me, was a decent start..

We were undone by a sucker punch but its hardly signs we are heading for the starts of the past couple of seasons.

Pace and muscle has been added which was good to see.

And couple of key players out, possibly could have tipped the balance in our favour.

And its the first game.

What a load of miserable buggers, we have on here. Likely am guessing people that watch from their armchairs

Personally i think there was some promise and also was key to at least secure the draw....

Several first teamers out and several performances of note from new players.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t see too much misery? Certainly less than normal.

Agreed, it's pretty depressing reading this forum sometimes. I'm a recent member (been reading Clive's stuff for a couple of years and since I don't have Twitter I wanted somewhere to talk QPR) and honestly it's quite off-putting. You'd have thought we got battered from some of the comments on here, and that Celar and Madsen were the devil incarnate.

We faded quickly in the second half which makes me concerned for our fitness and depth (long season ahead), but plenty of positives to take away. Attacking football that created chances, plenty of possession and a couple of players who looked really tasty (Esquerdinha especially). Unfortunate about a cheap goal but it happens.

Walsh was poor in my view. Nardi is a lot better. Walsh destruction was awful.otherwise same problem as last year we just don't make that final ball/delivery create problems. Corners as always need work. I think everyone went straight to there keeper. You have to kill a game when you are on top. As ever we failed to do that.

It was down to whoever took that awful corner 😔

Really not sure about Walsh in goal. Getting a few Lumley vibes already tbh. He's not comfortable enough with the ball at his feet unfortunately and that seems to be the way we want to play again. I'm not sure what we were expecting hes not really played any regular football...ever, at any professional level. Its unfair to throw him in at Championship level and expect him to do the business, get Nardi back in there and loan walsh out. I just dont get the thinking. Double unfortunately the back 4 still can't really play out from the back either. There was nice stuff on the occasions we did past the halfway line though. Some of the training patterns of play were clearly coming through in the game. Not sure we'll play too many teams as bad as Preston though and that's the worry. Hopefully there's one two more deals to be done.

Celar - How can 6ft 2 squaddie with a crew cut be so scared of a 32 panels of leather and an onion bag? Get involved or get some therapy.

For the first time in a decade or so I can claim a "Just Back."

I thought it was a fairly typical season opener. Loads of dumb mistakes by both teams. Pozu and Morgan looked impressive, especially in the first half. Walsh... not so much. Most of our new boys appear to have potential.

I get injuries happen during the course of the season. To start the season with this many injuries and then to add a non contact one to it today smacks of poor preparation, planning and squad composition. It's not acceptable.

very harsh..

I for one thought it was good to see our main striker checking the PH value alkalinity of the soil in the center circle rather than be anywhere near the numerous crosses flashing across their 6 yard box.

Pleasantly surprised by the performance! As others have said, first half was good with lots of positives. Got caught off guard for the equaliser, and our heads dropped.

Like the look of some the new boys - Mbengue the stand out for me. Also liked the look of Esquerdinha. I love that we’ve signed a Fluminense player!

IMO - more positives than negatives.

It's funny how people see the game.

I thought Burrell and Celar both looked good, but because Burrell runs around a lot more compared to Celar, to some, it simply means Celar is crap. It reminds me of my father in law, who when watching games on the TV, simply shouts 'leg it" every time someone gets the ball....

Celar held the ball up well first half, and brought Dembele, Chair and Poku into the game well. That side of his game goes unnoticed.

Either way, less negativity and more positivity required. This is a young team and we're finally working towards a sustainable football model.

Patience is needed.

I'll concede I may be being a bit harsh on Celar. He did do some decent linking up in the first half, but the problem is most of it's in front of the opposition defence.

He may help to develop a move, but he himself just doesn't seem to be threat - he's not going to stretch a defence and get in behind or win a header. It's all very safe, and it has to be done in just the right way with him or the ball ends up in their keeper's hands.

His link up play directly contributed to our goal. Just saying...

First half we were decent in spells, some good stuffs being played. Liked the look of Mbengue and Burrell. Preston were average and a half decent side will beat them 2 or 3 comfortably.

But genuinely think you can boil that game down to one very simple fact - There just isn't enough depth of quality in this squad. Case in point - a clearance from Preston bypasses our entire spine and puts their striker clean through to finish.

I recognise the challenges of FFP (however loaded and nonsensical they are as a concept in themselves) but this squad is still 5 or 6 short.

Dembele and Poku coming off today also gives me palpitations. Please don't say they are injured too or that will be even more of our favourite players that we won't see.

I'm convinced some would prefer for QPR not to improve so they can simply slag the club off.

Some people, I suspect ones not at the game, are going way over the top in terms of negativity. We should have won that and PNE were not very good, but there were many positives. First half we looked for more coherent as a team than we have done for a long time, some sharp fluid football, some excellent individual performances, as usual not enough end product, but for a very young team, with four or five of our top line players absent, I was pleasantly surprised. We aint gonna set this division alight, but I suspect we'll do OK.

If you play with what may as well be no striker for an hour you're not going to score, which we didn't.

But some decent performances considering how threadbare the starting line up looked and something to build on. We were lucky to be up against such poor opposition though.

Bit if a weird post when we *did* score in that hour AND the ‘non existent striker’ played a huge part in that goal.

He's done very well since he came on. Looks sharp and pacey.

Unlike Celar, who looks anything but. Absolute chalk and cheese. Celar should be nowhere near the first team.

Two teams destined to finish in the bottom five, the only question is where. With the exception of a handful of passages in the first half, it was a poor quality game all around.

I didn’t think that the goal was Mbengue’s fault, as he was up for the corner. It was down to whoever was meant to be staying back to watch the Preston forward.

He tried to put off their keeper launching it.

He laid a ball off in a move that culminated in an own goal.

I hope Newcastle don’t now come in and offer £60 million for our star striker. What would we do without him.
