I think the one thing that would make Ronnie want to leave Southampton to come to us is if he actually wanted to play games of football rather than sitting on the bench. Plus he now knows that he’s not even first choice for them at centre-back in the Championship so it’s incredibly unlikely that he would be if they went up again this year.

The thing with Rolls Royce Ronnie is it negates the need for an 8 to take the ball of the defence as he can just glide out and into the 8 position and play that pass.

If it's only a loan then it's worth looking at. Southhampton fans aren't having him it seems and he was very unhappy with how they treated him last year, surprisingly frank on one of the podcasts. I'm sure we are probably making the case that we can give him the platform to make them money ideally with us making some too

When West London Sport posts about it, I'll get excited. Until then, I'll gladly ignore all of the sh1te that emerges from the toilet that is 'X'

One of our better midfield performances last year (Finland's warmest day, I know) was when he played in it against Leeds at home.

The fly in the ointment for Edwards is the large sell on fee that Peterboro have. Reported to be as much as 50%. Depends if it is on profit.

This can only be loan, but for the season, thats worth it.
I mean if you can loan a player on small fee with some of their wages for 2 seasons, thats like you bought them on the cheap (no resale value either).

And if Saints go up we could get him for a Third season too.
Crackers this loan game sometimes.

Upside is we develop him each year to loan him back to us.
Cheap transfer that :P

zzzzzzzzzz

The only way this happens is a loan, towards end of deadline because saints have gone and bought another CB or two. They are flush with cash so possible, but I reckon I am more likely to join permanently than he is

Can you play in his position and have you had a pre-season where you are only 50% fit like the rest of the squad?

How can he not even be a starter in that team? Ok maybe when they weren't in the Prem but in the Championship. Did we just get an astounding few months out of him?

The issue is we are about to spend £4m and big wages (apparently) on a position we are absolutely stocked in and have big wages committed to for the foreseeable future
Cook
Dunne
Mbengue
JCS
Morrison

Dunne is our RB, with limited cover in that position
Cook is cooked / legs are gone.
Not sure what JCS - is that a boy band?

Leaves us 3 centre backs. Still don't believe the Ronnie speculation but I do think another centre back is going to be needed given our dreadful injury record.

Saints fans are labelling him as fifth choice centre back.

If thats the case, think he may want a loan out himself, and if injuries hit Saints in this position, maybe they could engineer a recall back policy in those circumstances.

And who better to loan back to, than the club you played so well for last sesson, and a club that most of your family members are fans.

Maybe dad needs to have a man to man chat with his son about his priorities for the year ahead.

Reading it like this, could see a loan sealed in last few minutes of the window.

Why is it a fly in the ointment?

Peterborough have zero say on his subsequent transfer or his market value. Southampton may decide to flip him at the same price he was sold to them, assuming he is not in favour there, and/or unhappy.

In which case, Pboro get zero as most sell ons are profit-based. They’ve got no clout in any transfer dealing.

He's a player Russell Martin would have loved.

But RM ain't at Southampton anymore.

And RM himself said Saints might want to be more physical and athletic in future.

So it's easy to see why Edwards might now be on the fringes at Saints. But they'll still want their money back, and he's still a player who could develop into a top player at the right club.

But dreams cost nothing. If there's a chance of getting him on loan then why not!?

This is how I feel. A loan with an option to buy at a decent price is amazing - if he has another great season with us then we get him at a good price, if it turns out that it was a false dawn then we're not left ruing the transfer fee.

Less sure about a straight loan - arguably we need numbers but it'll only take time away from players like Mbengue, Morrison or even the likes of Akindeleni or Smith. On the other hand, how ready are some of those to play...? I'm torn on that.

He’s great, obviously, but why is the solution always another player?

In Advanced Talks With Edwards on 16:09 - Aug 27 with 1227 viewssdm1508

I can see it now. Edwards on the ball, gliding into midfield. Hayden dropping into the centre back position as Edwards ghosts passed a player and splits the midfield and defence with a racking pass out to Poku. A step over and drop off the shoulder a perfect cross to a bulldozing Kone who buries the ball into the next and leaves the Centre back on the floor tangled in the net.

Heaven is a place on Earth

If he has a good season with us, would he have the option of saying "no thanks" to our option, or would he be obliged to sign?
