We all know this is a bare thread. Even one of the clickbait sites has suggested Ronnie is one of 3 we should look at but with little hope.

Mbengue
JCS
Morrison

In my opinion Edwards is better than all of those.

I can see it now. Edwards on the ball, gliding into midfield. Hayden dropping into the centre back position as Edwards ghosts passed a player and splits the midfield and defence with a racking pass out to Poku. A step over and drop off the shoulder a perfect cross to a bulldozing Kone who buries the ball into the next and leaves the Centre back on the floor tangled in the net.

Is there a label on that stuff?

I think he is more than capable of playing the no 8 position.

"A loan with an option to buy at a decent price is amazing - if he has another great season with us then we get him at a good price"

If he has a good season with us, would he have the option of saying "no thanks" to our option, or would he be obliged to sign?

From my understanding the option to buy would be contracted with the club so they would not be able to say no. I assume he could refuse to sign with us, though - you can't force someone to work for you.

I hope he wouldn't say no, though, since that would be basically the nightmare counterpart to the collective dream session that we're all having right now about this...

Ok, thanks. Makes sense.

Exactly this. The new project. All we need to do is to keep signing football players on a regular (weekly?) basis and not play any games of Association Football whatsoever. Everyone is happy.

He’s great, obviously, but why is the solution always another player?

And so often a player we've already had on loan. Are Saito, Hayden, and Edwards really the exact profiles we need for the right money?

Why is it a fly in the ointment?

Peterborough have zero say on his subsequent transfer or his market value. Southampton may decide to flip him at the same price he was sold to them, assuming he is not in favour there, and/or unhappy.

In which case, Pboro get zero as most sell ons are profit-based. They’ve got no clout in any transfer dealing.

That's why I put depends if on profit.

There are more pressing issues than centre back, but if this kid was available, he’s that good, you’d just suck it up and get a deal agreed and accept we’ll remain rubbish in other areas. Top player.

But why is that a fly in the ointment here? In other words you are suggesting there is a problem of some kind we have to overcome.

There is no problem as far as I can see, since Pboro have zero say in any transfer from Saints. Profit sell on or otherwise.

They’ll get what they are given, and may get nothing. Like us with Armstrong, potentially.

One of our better midfield performances last year (Finland's warmest day, I know) was when he played in it against Leeds at home.

He was outstanding. He attacks empty space and goes for it . Such a fine player. Get him in .

This is one of those I'll refuse to believe until he's on the offish waving his scarf. My heart can't take it.

On the we're stacked front, for me:

JCS isn't a going concern anymore. An expensive gamble and renewal.

Cook looks gone to me and most after the winter injury. A shame, a great player and pro. Likely only up to shoring things up if we are ever winning a game again.

Morrison- quality player but long term fitness unknown.

Dunne - is going to be a RB now realistically

Mbengue- looks great fun but unknown. Pace ideal alongside others.

Edwards is, IMHO, a better CB than the others and a decent midfielder too from what we have seen. Bit of a Jack Cork about him or Jack Stephens. Maybe the club feel he can improve both areas we lack in?

Allegedly an initial loan with a £6m transfer + add ons. Personal terms agreed. Huge for us if true but kind of completes the assets if it is true. Now all we need to do (if this does happen) is not be losing 5-0 at half time every week.

Never knowingly right.

If this is true (big if, obviously), this is a big chunk of change to drop on a position we don't technically need.

We've gone from "we must be financially sensible" to "we're backing the manager with SIGNINGS" pretty quickly here. I guess the logic is that we believe that he'll go on to be a very sellable asset in the future vs the dead money signing of an older player, but still.

On the other hand, if it's only an option to buy and not an obligation to buy, then we can see what money we have available next year?

Heard the same sort of figure, so there goes the Eze money if it happens. Won't believe it until it happens as that £6m seems high.

Edwards and Mbengue CB pairing. Beauty and the Beast indeed.

FWIW I did see JCS on Sunday, shopping in Kingston. I can therefore confirm that he lives and still has two legs.

If this is true, I will be over the moon - I think he's more than worth that price, and assuming fee paid next year and stretched out over a few years.

Please let it be true!
