| Julien Stéphan, I mean, come on... 22:39 - Oct 4 with 15344 views | bosh67 | After the Watford and Coventry defeats we were all wondering whether he was already out of his depth? Six matches further along he's unbeaten, almost nullified the goal difference, got us in the top six and 'generally' making very good in match decisions and proving himself to be a speed learner in this division. Of course we are going to lose matches, possibly a few or so in a row but I actually believe that this guy will work out how to deal with defeats again very quickly. Quicker than his predecessors. Je pense que nous avons une bonne affaire ici! [Post edited 4 Oct 22:39]

| Julien Stéphan, I mean, come on... on 08:54 - Oct 5 by nix | In fairness I do think people had legitimate concerns and still do. Some of which have been partially addressed and some are still up for longer term assessment. My point always was that the positives were being underplayed and inferences were being made that stretched the known facts. Also putting people in camps and not giving the new manager a chance. Things are currently going pretty well but we have a very long way to go. I'm loving where we are right now but am aware we're only a few narrow losses from meltdown. I get that too given that we're a battered and bruised fanbase who have had a torrid few seasons. But f@ck me we deserved yesterday's joy. |
Ultimately, and it’s the flavour currently doing the rounds in the Premier league, “adapting” to a new style of play is the order of the day. Pretty much every club across the two top divisions have attempted to change their game model to the “Pep” way as the Man City of 3 seasons ago wiped the floor with everyone. Tried, and for most part failed, because only that City team (in this country), had the players capable of doing it. The preferred model has shifted to pace and power……and set pieces. We have, by virtue of a shellacking, moved in a similar direction and rather fortuitously, have the the squad and personnel to make it work. It kinda feels like all the pieces have fallen into place at QPR for the first time since Warnock.

Or maybe this IS the game model. We hired a manager who plays a certain way, we recruited players that fit that particular system. Maybe it has taken JS some time to get it into the players, obviously we needed the window to shut too. But perhaps this is what we have been aiming for all along? Or maybe I'm giving Nourry and De Souza and whoever else too much credit

It will be the same for the players we've sold, fees banded around will probably include add-ons for appearances, goals etc

We started the season piss balling, but with the tonking at Coventry and the introduction of Kone into the team, our approach flipped instantaneously. Nothing to do with Nourry and rigid game models. Adaptation. All dictated by pragmatism, player/squad profile and a manager who clearly knows what the hell he is doing and how to get results (barring Oxford that still jars). Early days, but the ingredients are all there.

| Julien Stéphan, I mean, come on... on 18:59 - Oct 5 by mart_Goblin | respectfully disagree. The game model was 1 up front . We are now effectively playing 2 up front . They were never signed to play together because it’s not in the methodology manual . For anyone to entrech themselves into ‘this is all part of the master plan all along’ is incredibly blinkered. So we’d go a full pre season and 4 or 5 games into the season before even trying to put ‘the master plan’ into action??? I mean i’ve seen people keep digging on this forum but my god…. |
Never said it was a master plan. What they have done is sign a coach who is adaptable and players who can play various ways. The goals we have scored this season have reflected that adaptability. Under MC, we had not variation, that could be due to the players he had, but I'm more convinced it was down in part to him.

Actually not true. Marti was equally pragmatic when it came to changing our style in both seasons. Season 1 it got us out of the mess Ainsworth had got us into. Unfortunately, in season 2, he reverted back to 'Plan A' with typically disastrous consequences and it took him , what, 17 games to become more pragmatic again? This saw us rise from relegation certs to play-off outsiders, by the spring. Sadly, after the Valentine's 'love affair' with Derby, back he goes to his tippy, tappy again, once more with such predictable results, that we very nearly found ourselves back in a relegation battle again. Only time will tell if the current 'direct transition' is here to stay, of if Stephane will also revert back to the 'style' of our opening three games. I guess the manifestation or not of that, will gives a clear indication of who is really running the show

"The game model was 1 up front . We are now effectively playing 2 up front ." This takes us back to the fact that as far as I know no one at the club has ever directly clarified what CN meant when he referred to the "game model". JS and JDeS were both evasive but both heavily implied that it doesn't extend as far as formations , so at a stretch maybe what ever the mythical game model is *can* be applied to both 4231 and the variation of 442 we're currently playing. But I genuinely have no idea, because I've no idea what CN and JDeS are referring to when they use the term.

https://loftforwords.fansnetwork.co.uk/forum/314793/the-game-model/ Nourry quotes here: "some form of 4-3-3, possession-based, mid-block/high press football,” "we did that by looking at the last 10 years of the Championship and what won you points and what allowed you sustainability to bring in 16 to 24-year-old players who could play well in the system, develop and be the best players they could possibly be." "We have a club game model of how we want to play football. That’s a document that is now under the per view of our head of methodology [Jon De Souza], who’s in charge of policing the game model." "Nourry is adamant that the club will not move away from the game model approach even if the team struggles to get results on the pitch, and it will guide the process of appointing head coaches in the future."
