Yes well those people were probably hoping they'd have been replaced by people with demonstrable experience in their respective roles with perhaps even a proven track record rather than giving a 26 year old who'd never before been an employee of a football club both jobs. Those people thought a change were needed to drive progression. It's not their fault they were served a farcical situation as a replacement.

I'd be a bit careful throwing stones too as certain people around here seem 'more than happy to see the back of' Marti Cifuentes. Let's see how those people feel a few games into next season. Pretty much the exact same situation.

Well I’m sure you’ll be one of the first in line to say I told you so if that happens 👍

The comparison to Les is interesting, because on the face of it you'd struggle to find someone with more credit in the bank with the supporters, and yet even he ended up being criticized an awful lot, harshly imo. Nourry doesn't have that going for him, nor does he seem to have... how to put it... the common touch, with people - *and* he's wasted no time at all in treating supporters badly in all the ways that Clive has done an excellent job of outlining recently. So even putting competence to one side, it's a remarkable situation just in terms of so much sitting with one individual who seems destined to be just wildly unpopular with the supporters if it goes tits up, and probably even if it doesn't.

Nourry can be as unpopular as he cares for.
Just make the right decisions many more times than not is all I ask.

He’s been touted as the one mostly responsible for the academy shakeup, which was long overdue. We definitely seem to be going in the right direction there.

That said I would much rather see us bring in a DoF (or Head of Director of Football as that seems to fit the current job titles) with experience as this squad is looking very shaky now. We seem to be getting players of limited promise so far, maybe they’ll show more next season but I don’t see how they are going to improve this squad with the limitations upon them.

Then maybe the CEO can focus on costs and communication.

I mean West Brom are pretty tight on ownership funding and FFP themselves, but still went out and spent £10m last season (recouping £8m). Norwich spent £30m and recouped £40m in sales. West Brom's wage bill at their last set of accounts was £42m, so they're spending double what we are, Norwich's was £51m. These are different levels to where we're at so there will be a different calibre of manager attracted to those jobs.

We're also looking very specifically for a head coach, not a manager. Managers often want to bring their own people with them. Here you've got a CEO/DOf, a head of methodology, head of individual player development, head of goalkeeping, head of set pieces, head of performance - none of which are your picks. So, again, that's going to be a certain kind of candidate who's happy to just come and fit into a set up that's already in place, and they have no control over.

Questions managers are going to want to know - is there money to spend, am I in charge of spending it, can I bring three of my coaches with me. And the answer to all of those things here is no.

So Grégory Vignal then

Yeh it's not me saying "nobody will want it". Literally hundreds of coaches will want it. And I'm not saying this set up is good or bad. I'm just saying a lot of the names I'm seeing linked are, in my opinion, a bit of a pipe dream. The finances and the set up mean it'll be a different calibre, experience and style of coach to that.

I mean Cleverley had absolutely no control at Watford either so maybe, but I reckon it'll be somebody of similar profile to Cifuentes or the guy that Norwich/Plymouth hired. Scandi leagues, Austrian league, Belgian league, German, French, Spanish second division. A coach, not a manager. Probably quite early in the career. I'd usually add lower league British coach to this, but are there a lot of standout candidates down there?

Watch Pulis get it now

Again, going against the grain of the overriding consensus. I have absolutely no problem with a head coach rather than a manager.
To many times, when a manager is sacked/leaves we have to start again. I like the new setup as it reduces this problem.
And no, I'm not a bot, or Charlie Bs BBF.

Neither.

On the other hand , I do have a problem with pathetic public falling outs and killing any chance that we get compensation. Basically means whoever takes this job will not currently be in a job at a good level, as we have low to no means for paying a fee.

There will be 100s of people wanting it. How many of those are any good / can the board pick them out? Not holding my breath.

I think you've summed it up pretty well. There are plenty of head coaches / managers / whatever out there, ranging from bullshit-merchant chancers like Beale, to steady-Eddie types like Mowbray, right the way out to footballing idealists like Rohl. The buffet is open, fill your plate.

But you make an excellent point. The choice of who succeeds Marti is down to a group of people, owners and executives, whose track record for appointments is something akin to grabbing a set of car keys from a bowl in a dimly lit suburban semi, surrounded by grim, sinister-looking couples. Sure, the keyring says 'Porsche' but you end up with...? Who the hell knows.

We're not going to be short on options. That's not the problem: choosing the right one? Well, that is something that's going take some thought.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'
