Play the strongest team we possibly can or reward the players who have got the team this far? I know at this level it supposed to be all about the coaching and not the results but for a one off like this I am hoping it is the strongest team in an effort to win the cup, along the lines of... 1. Salamon 2. Putman 3. Esquerdinha 4. McDowell 5. Murphy 6. Bennie 7. Tuck 8. Morgan 9. Sutton 10. Kolli 11. Dillon
Subs. Clark, Talla, Manufor, Petrie, Vaughan and others. I am not as familiar as many on here as it is normally to far to travel for their games so I only have around 5-6 games to base my team on. Please feel free to criticise/ replace/ tell me to never darken your door again etc.

Not much to add to everyone else’s words. It was a hugely enjoyable evening. There was only one football team out there and that was us. Paul Furlong should be proud of what he has achieved. Brentford were simply bigger boys playing long ball stuff.
I would like to say something about Murphy, the captain, though.
He is small, I doubt he’ll make it at our level (I doubt most of them will unfortunately due to size), but I though he showed an excellent first touch (like Tuck, who is superb on the ball), great awareness, great composure for his goal, and a superb mentality.
His first corner he kicked the ground well before the ball, hurt himself and saw it land on the bounce at the near post. People in the stands laughed.
He finished the night with a goal, an assist, and the captain lifting the trophy. That shows incredible mental strength. That boy has the right minerals.
He may not make it with us, but I can see him being a lovely player for a lucky club in League 2 in the next few years.
Others take the limelight but he shouldn’t go under appreciated. Big night, and he turned up.
Murphy is an interesting one - Cifuentes took him away last preseason but clearly didn’t rate him. He’s 21 now so you’d expect him to be up for release this summer but I imagine they’ll give him another 12 months so the new manager can take a look.

Very poor performance from Brentford who I thought were beaten by a team who played as a team rather than individuals playing for themselves.Excellent crowd that would have given all the players great experience although I doubt if any will make it to wear first team shirts.
That's an honest view from you, swichingcode. Thanks.
However, you're not right about our lads making the first team. Kieran Morgan (18/19) played 30 times for the first team last season, with a few others making the bench and one or two getting minutes.

If he's proud of his mentoring of Paul Furlong (assuming he did) then yep, great, I'm with that.
As has been noted - his tenure brought us nothing like this and nothing like the breakthroughs we're seeing now. I know Kolli gives him credit, and he was too young before, but I just can't equate the current success with my old mate Benny.
Now Paul Furlong.... love that geezer and absolute props to him this evening
Ransey did have a hand in several of that team from a young age but with any academy team it's not all on one person is a collective effort by all the coaches from a young age to now and also to recruitment for adding some good 18 year olds in the last year
The way Furlong had them organised was impressive though, thrilled for him, one of the good guys in football

Well that was fun! . I'm glad so many people turned out to watch and support the young lads, and it was a young team - apart from Murphy and Petrie, they were all 18/19 years old. That's a good thing.
Morgan the stand out, of course, using the experience he's gained this year to put his stamp on the game. It's also a good sign that, despite spending 6 months with the 1sts he was keen to play in these last few games. Great attitude. Same goes for Bennie who really didn't want to go off despite being unable to walk.
The back four did very well, standing up to a physical challenge. Esquerdinha took the plaudits obviously for his attacking verve and reading of the game, but I also thought Putman did very well against a very big and physical winger.
Tuck, as always, looked composed in midfield. I've said this before, but he's a proper footballer. Sees the game well, lovely passer. Sutton I thought started slowly but came alive in the second half with the ball at his feet and caused plenty of problems. Dillon worked his backside off against a couple of giant CBs, and really seemed to enjoy the challenge. Similar build and style of play to Heidar Helguson (knows how to win a free kick too).
Whatever happens over the coming weeks (some will likely be released) and years (most of these guys need L2/L1 loans) these players have done themselves and the club proud. I hope they enjoyed every minute of it and celebrate their success wildly.
It was a really good night, not what I expected, I'll be honest I thought we'd lose but from the first minute we were the better side. Brentford were good at set pieces but that was about it
Some of the football played was so good to watch, the tricks, the passing through midfield and all with a purpose, all played a great pace, best game I've seen at Loftus Road for a long time
The goals are well worth watching, the second was a brilliant finishIt was quite a feisty game as well, we clearly got under their skin, a lot of off the ball scuffles/handbags, the ref completely lost control of the game at one point
Bennie picked up what looked a bad injury, was holding his knee in agony and for some reason we left him on so next time he jumped he landed badly again and was on crutches at the end
So many really good performances, a few thoughts on the team
Salomon - his kicking is dreadful but made some good saves and was very good on crosses. Looks a long way from first team level but some potential here
Putman - really liked him, was up against a really strong winger with no real help from his winger and he stuck to it and defended well all night, one to look out for
Esquerdinha - looked really impressive, he'll be in the first team next year, one of two players on the pitch who looked too good for this level
McDowell & Wilkie - did great at centre half, strong in the tackle and decent on the ball as well
Murphy - loved watching him, he took a terrible early corner where he kicked the floor and lots of people were laughing at him, must have been an awful moment but he never let his head drop, his goal was brilliant and the ball for the 3rd was good as well. I don't think he'll make it with us but can certainly see him getting a career in the game
Tuck - another I really liked, good on the ball never seemed to give it away and a nice range of passing, need to get him a good loan next season
Morgan - best player on the pitch, could tell he's played for the first team
Sutton - he got better as the game wore on, his pace and tricks caused them problems all night and they just resorted to kicking him. He looks exciting
Dillon - had a tough job up front on his own but held it up well and worked hard, looked a threat at times

A few already have or been in the matchday squad.
IIRC: Kolli (who wasn't in the squad last night), Sutton (who run Brentford's defence ragged they had to resort to persistent fouling of him), Morgan (MoM last night), Bennie (awful injury last night, really hope it's not too serious), Petrie, Lloyd (out injured).

Agree with those assessments Dave, perhaps only that I am more positive about Salomon than you, he really showed the value of coming for the ball when we are under late pressure from crosses. You really need that in the Championship and it is a common criticism of the otherwise excellent Nardi. His kicking was poor, hoping that was just an aberration. I think there is plenty of promise there.

I think he was referring to the Brentford players not R’s.

Like Wombat and Benny_the_Ball also very impressed with Esquerdinha. Great touch and movement, head always up. Reminded me of Richard Langley.
I didn't think Brentford were that bad. At 2-1 they could still have got a goal from a set piece or corner as they had a height advantage. I think they were trying to play counter-attacking football rather than long ball football. They had a good player on the left who kept getting his crosses in. They got rattled when their goal didn't come.

Salamon is still young so if we can get him a season in the National League, that'd be fine at this stage I think. Halliwell on the bench is himself a decent keeper from the little I've seen of him too, so makes sense to get Salamon out for the year.
Shepherd also played well in the semi.

Ok didn’t know that I was under the impression that you fielded a very young side in comparison to Brentford’s.I hope these youngsters all go on to play in a good standard of football.

Brentford fans blaming…
1) The fact this squad played a game to extra-time on Monday - plausible
2) Exceptionally bouncy pitch, not up to GTech standards - wah wah wah.
Don’t normally reply to trollers on twitter but one particular bitchy Brentford fan who called us tin pot was having a right go . I had to point out to him that last nights attendance was more than Brentford’s average attendance just over ten years ago . What they’ve done is impressive but we don’t need to be reminded about time and time again.

Not even Morgan, Sutton Salamon or Bennie? Esquerdinha & Putman still have time to improve, as well as Alfie Tuck.

Didnt a few of the Brentford squad have EFL loans this season. If so, they cant be far away. Maybe not PL but lower down. 3 of our starting XI (Morgan, Bennie and Sutton) played in our First team this year. Murphy, Petrie and Esquerdinha have been on the bench. Although with our injuries, there weren't too many other options. All the others who played significant minutes, apart from Petrie, have had senior football. Often at level 6 (Nat League N/S). It's a massive step from that and U21s to the Championship but some might make it.

I think you might want a 2nd CB, e.g. Wilkie. Otherwise that is close to likely starting XI I suspect, going by the SF report, either Kolli or Dillon to be on the bench.
Shepperd was in goal for SF. I believe Salamon was still out on loan at the time.
Wilkie for Kolli, I managed 10 out of 11 and 2 of the subs. That's better than I do trying to guess a 1st team game

As others have said, interesting to see what happens to this group over the next 12 months.
Ignoring Morgan, Esquardinha and Wilkie looked ready to play men’s football, but that’s not surprising as they both have experience of first team men’s football so we will see if it’s just a physical advantage that falls away at a higher level.
Sutton & Putman I imagine will stay at this level another year while training with the first team and if we could find a NL club to take them I’d guess Salomon, Murphy and Tuck could benefit from the first half of the year getting kicked up in the air.

Their centre backs were very powerful. Dillon and Sutton worked incredibly hard but didn’t get much past them. They probably won’t make it into the Premier League but I reckon they can have professional careers.

I feel Bennie needs a loan out next season too. He's got good physical attributes but looks like he needs games at a higher level than U21s to develop further.

Disagree with the last comment.
Morgan head and shoulders best player on the pitch. But Tuck and Murphy I think have a chance. The left back and Sutton will be around the squad next season.
I was less impressed with Puttnam (I think he is too small) and Salman than others. I would take the Brentford left winger on loan, big pacy powerful.
Petrie's future is as a full back IMHO

I've never seen Petrie play as a fullback nor do I think he could. He's been okay but I wouldn't be surprised if we let him go this summer.
