Anyone else going to Zurich tomorrow night? We are sat behind one of the goals in section B11,and although I’ll be wearing an England shirt rather than a QPR one,I’ll be waving my QPR flag, especially if Chloe comes on. Come on England.

Completely unacceptable to comment on a players weight. You wouldn't say that about a male player. We are a quarter the way through the 21st Century - try and catch up

Not true. I remember Ruddock playing in a hooped shirt. Or was it 2 shirts sewn together? You fat bstrd.

Germany's keeper! She is having the game of her life
Was going to post something similar last night. I mean, are we not entertained?! Bearing in mind how long they had to play with 10, getting that result was outstanding!
Night and day compared to England's first half against Sweden. Pace, power, commitment - real death or glory stuff from the Germans. Brilliant game!

It's going to be England v Germany final again I reckon. And the Lionesses wouldn't want to face them on penalties. The German penalties were exceptional as always.

Clamping down on hair pulling, understandably. Why has hair pulling become a thing, not just in the Womens game either? That was the cheapest of red cards for Germany and for violent conduct too, so that's her tournament over.
Peter Crouch probably should have got a red in 2006 against Trinidad but got away with it.

Sorry, but after that energy sapping game, I cannot see Germany beating Spain

It is an extraordinary save. I'd also say she risked causing herself an injury because she wouldn't have been able to cushion her landing given the angle of her fall. But she went for it, so huge respect for doing that.

Spain will win the whole thing. And quite easily too I think.

I'd agree Spain will.make the final probably in a repeat of the world cup final v England.
Spain were seriously impressive in winning the world cup final, but if they have a weakness its that they don't always turn their possession dominance into goals. Therefore I'd give England a punchers chance if they could score first.

What about the cockless 4s in womens rowing who gets to investigate that to see if its legit . I think the conversation about womens/girls football depends on posters having daughters or granddaughters playing and having to sit through countless tournaments from the time they joined up until they finsh school. The standard varies so much its stunning but it becomes something bigger meeting the same families and watching the girls develop their skills and team spirit makes it so enjoyable .Of course the liquor devoured in the Motel 6 lobby really helps too .

If its Spain, think we'll lose
If its Germany pretty confident we'll win again. Their manager is very negative

It was quite incredible that after the decades if propaganda tells us that women’s football is a serious sport, along with millions spent, someone gets sent off for hair pulling in an international quarter final

150 years of men’s football being told it’s the mutt’s nutts and arguably the best player in the world at the time, Zidane, headbutted an opponent in the chest during the World Cup final.
No one accused of propagandising if I remember correctly.

Didn't that happen in the Club World Cup Final, literally a week ago?

I heard George Best complain (on the tele) that the Benfica players picked him up by the armpit hair during the European Cup final. Some decades after it happened tho...

Wasn't that an Argentinian playing for Estudiantes del la Plata against Man U in the Inter Continental Cup.

Ok, but will a Facebook post about Katie Taylor be filled with comments about how shit women's boxing is? Or something about Sabalenka be met with raging comments from men about her and the other women being crap and the women's game being pointless.
Because that's exactly what every single post about women's football is currently getting, leading to deliberate reposts of the same stuff because of the guaranteed engagement it brings from these types.
Great post, thank you.
I really can't think of another sport where the elite female competitors are derided anywhere near as much as football. Serena Williams, Simone Biles, Nelly Koorda, Annika Sorenstam, Katie Ledecky, Laura Kenny, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Katie Taylor etc. are all generally heralded. I'm not saying they haven't had to put up with some absolute nonsense in their careers - doubtless they all have - but they're at least treated with respect by the masses.
Football is just different. There are larger swathes of men that presumably have some sensitivities around 'their' game and are unwilling to accept women as competitors into it. Nobody is forced to watch it yet some find it appropriate to chime in with derision when they do for 5 minutes. It really does read as latent misogyny or gender bias reacting to a perceived threat, even if it's subconscious.
The reactionary venom once it's pointed out chimes with the behaviour of a threatened individual too. All a bit mad that it can still happen in today's day and age.

It's a team sport. It's football which means insults come with the territory. The comparative quality of the elite men's and women's games seems obvious and is demonstrated by eg women's games against boys. Most sports watchers are attracted to the best available - fastest, strongest, most skilful ....... None of which is a good reason to denigrate the female participants but to point out the difference seems fair enough. Which seems to trigger reactionary support in some men. None of which is mad just averageish opinions.

So by that logic, in any such debate about say... Liam Morrison or Amadou Mbengue next season... it would be valid to point out that they're 'rubbish' or 'not massively entertaining' because they're not as fast or strong as Virgil Van Dyke? Same for Ilias Chair because he's not as skillful or prolific as Mo Salah?
Equally - was it hard to enjoy our DS Premier League Cup victory because if they played the Brentford first team they'd have been slaughtered?
No matter the reasoning, comparing it to the men's game and dismissing it because there are differences is just ignorant. And I'd still argue it's far more prevalent in football than other team sports like rugby or cricket. I can't ever recall anyone saying women's rugby is awful because they'd lose every scrum to a men's team. Or a female fast pace bowler would get hit all over the ground by a men's opening batsmen. It's just completely irrelevant.
