Getting in very early on this one. I only started one match thread last season and we won 4-0 so here’s hoping my luck continues especially as it’s such a huge fixture. Not just because it’s the first game of the season or because it’s the first game for JS, not just because the pressure is on us to beat a team, at home, that many have tipped to be relegated but because this team needs to win for its fragile confidence. To get its supporters to forget about gardening leave and divided opinions. My anxiety levels are way higher than normal for this game and with the injuries we’ve accumulated so early in the season I don’t think they’re going to drop, especially if Dunne and Cook are unavailable.
You wait for months for the season to start and this is what you get; a knot in the pit of your stomach.
I’m going for a rollercoaster 3-2 win. Chair with the first.
C’mon you soooopahhooooopsah.

Well, Illy says Jules Steve has an aura about him….i hope it’s hooped.
Given who we have available and that it’s a nightmare to go one down against PNE, I’d be tempted to play three CBs to give Larkeche and Adamson some support and in game positional coaching. Given they can also get forward, that might be a better approach than 4 at the back.
I would also start with three in midfield and play Chair plus whichever ST is fit up front.
Use the subs early to change formation as required and I think we might have a better chance all round.
Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Dunno about Cook, i'm worried about his legs. I'm hoping PNE are there for the taking, and Adamson's pace can scare 'em.
Vale, Burrell etc to come on at some point, but i'm pinning everything on Celar... I can just see him scoring and doing the 'rock-a-bye-baby' or 'sucking thumb, jumper up the shirt' celebration.
For what it’s worth , if Cook is fit then I’d start Mbengue at right back . At least for some experience. Adamson will be a good player but I don’t think he’s ready yet . Not quite Gubbins v Watford vibes but we don’t want to damage him straight away . If he does start then prove me wrong young man and I’ll be cheering him on all the way . The options are now very thin though.
There is an element of luck involved , but the injury situation cannot and is not about luck primarily. Injuries happen of course but we have so many people in high paid roles to deal with preparation, recuperation, nutrition , diet, psychology, methodology, performance ,mentors, physios , doctors etc etc etc that once again some people can’t be doing their jobs to the standard required or a few of the players are not doing everything necessary to maintain the fitness required. Yet we’ll be told that the injuries are not that bad and we are mid table in the injury stats and that sky is green and the sea is orange etc .
Apologies for my negativity . Just a bit tired of starting a new season with no bloody options for the head coach no matter who it is . Just got to hope the 11 on the pitch can pull something together .

Watching opposition players walk right past him to shoot on goal is certainly taking risks. Whether its a worthwhile risk is for the coach to judge.
He looked better defensively in pre-season and has certainly bulked up. Think he still needs work on his defensive game but I'm also not sure he's quite the luxury player he was at the beginning of last season.

If it was that scary going a goal down v Preston they wouldn't have finished 20th.
We beat them twice last season after conceding the first goal.

It’s more the time wasting and dragging out of the game that’s just a ‘mare to watch. We could do without that tomorrow and force them to chase the game.

It will be an interesting game for me - audio, on site, where I shall be running a crew of six Brazilian gentlemen who have never had the pleasure of listening to an Andy Sinton live broadcast. What a treat for them. Though their pleasure may be a little diminished as only Renato and Basilio have a good grasp of the lingo.

Class
I’ve been predicting this all week - about as predictable as a 1-0 defeat that awaits us tomorrow… still, lovely to see and gotta love Chloe Kelly.

Chloe was standing in front of us for the 6-1 at Blackpool a few years ago. She went to leave at 5-1 and the bloke next to us said "oh, thank God you're finally coming on."

I am hoping that we really go for it in this game, I always feel it is better to go all out for a win, rather than play not to lose a game, especially at home.. Our problem at home for quite a few seasons now has been our tendency to go all passive allowing the opposition to gain an early foothold in the game and then land up chasing it. Feel if we go a goal up the result will be a win, but we must get out of a doom loop of passive play, which has blighted us for a while. Just go for it, that is what the punters want and looking forward to be back again.

Yes, I think you're right. From what I pick up from players' comments about Stephan's approach, it seems he favours an aggressively attacking game. I'm hoping that's what we see today.

I think we might see more Warburton type basketball games than safety first approach of Cifuentes this season.
2-0. Burrell to score. Although i’ve put a mad 4-2 in the prediction league so I can’t even settle my own mind
3-1 in the prediction league, we have goals all over the team. Dembele with the 1st, agree about Mbengue playing RB if Cook 100%. Can’t spell his name but young Scottish CB on the bench, 6ft 4 might be needed up front
