In all of the post-game chat, no one seems to have mentioned that although Morrison and Mbengue were Ok on the ground, they got pretty much beasted in the air by Leaburn. A lot of our ‘midfield’ problems stemmed from the second ball from those knock-downs. I did wonder whether moving Dunne into the middle just to compete against him might have helped, but I can see teams targeting us if that’s our central pairing

Leaburn had the better of them in the air because he's about 4 inches taller than Morrison and 6-8 inches taller than Mbengue. Not sure there was much chance of them winning many headers against him. More about how we defended the flick ons from him which we did well enough. I thought their big winger was decent and troubled Morrison once or twice like he struggled a bit with Watfords big physical players.

It’s not just about height to win headers. They were, most of the time, physically outmuscled.

By a man physically stronger and taller than them. It happens. Not many strikers of that size in the league. Although we didn't win many headers we generally dealt with their threats pretty well.

For our 3rd goal, wind it back a bit and you'll see Morrison win a vital header that leads to our attack. For some reason, at that stage of the game it looks as if it was a 3x2 in their favour from the punt down the middle. If Morrison doesnt win that Charlton are through on goal. Well done lad.

Hayden can play CB as well. Then there's Smith and Akindileni coming up from the ranks.

Don’t think anyone is against the idea of signing Edwards apart from the money involved to do so.
Surely out of our budget based on how much they paid for him (£3m + add ons) + he’ll be on high wages (by our standards) + Southampton have no need to sell him financially.
And although he’s not starting every game he’s in every matchday squad and will get plenty of minutes with them this season.

Mbengue, Morrison, Cook, JCS, Akindileni, Field, Hayden, Smith, all can play centre half to varying standards.
The first question is, if he is affordable should we sign Ronnie Edwards ?
The second question is, is he a better player than the ones above if the answer is yes than in my opinion we should make every effort to sign him, if the answer is no then we should move on and forget him saying thanks for the effort he put in last season and wish him good luck for the future.
I think he could have a good career as an attacking midfield player, strong in the tackle and in the air, eye for a pass and not frightened to bring the ball out.
If you can improve the team by making an affordable signing it makes sense to do so.

I agree we’re well stocked at CB but Edwards is a special special player. He has the ability to play for a top half Prem side.

Sign him and we’re a centre mid away from a promotion capable team.

£3 million plus adds on would again represent a steal and acquire us an asset that would quickly be worth far more than that.

Poll: Should JFH get the sack?

Mbengue raw and will be suspended a hell of a lot
Morrison tick - he’s a player
Cook - I’ve heard people say his legs have gone
JCS - 15 games a season maximum
Field - emergency only surely?

So…… stack d and racked? Not for me

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

"Sign him and we’re a centre mid away from a promotion capable team."

Very true, provided that centre midfielder was Roy Keane in his prime.

Love being a QPR fan, inside one week we've gone from being 6-0 down after 47 mins to threatening the top echelons after a hard-fought home win against one of the relegation favourites. Kone's turned into a cross between Van Basten, Ferdinand, Austin and Shearer, Saito is De Bruyne and Mbengue the next Danny Maddix.

Must admit, I prefer the optimistic route. It's more fun.

Who knows what Wrexham away will bring? :-)

Exactly. Not digging anyone out whatsoever but there must be a dozen posts a day on here which contains the words JCS, Frey and 'fit'. I've written them both off subconsciously. Just never going to happen for either of them on a consistent basis although obviously wish that wasnt the case.

Promotion capable does not mean promotion achieving

But on paper, with everyone fit, it’d be a very strong squad

Well apparently JCS is coming back off surgery to fix a problem so maybe he'll actually appear at some stage. If fit a terrific player. I know, I know...
