Madsen is a decent footballer and far far better player than the uneducated supporter on this very MB can see. Selected again today to start and played another decent match adding to the opening game against PNE where he did a decent job as well. He was OK against Watford as well despite being ‘singled out’ as poor, etc, etc – he was not poor in ‘my book’. MB people need to actually look at what he does well. Left out at Coventry but soon introduced from half time replacing ‘fans favorite’ Morgan who was so so poor in the first half giving Coventry at least two of the goals that we conceded & giving the ball away time after time and very overrated generally by many posters.

Going back to today, he played next to Varane in a near defensive type role, he took many dead ball situations, and took them well, including a well saved free kick, some of his forward passes were very good indeed, passed the ball generally very well and at times very quickly to get attacks moving. Nothing wrong with his game today overall but I see that ParkRoyalRanger still finds time to disrespect him…….not surprising really when you know he thinks that Dykes is a good player and it is everyone elses fault!!!!

Madsen is one of our best footballers in the Team, ‘head & shoulders’ above many and it is sad that many can’t see it.

If Madsen is as poor, as many on this MB appear to think (& believe), then why is he being picked to play by the new Manager/Coach/CEO this season and, also, picked by Cleventes at the back end of last season, who is a many MB poster hero,, ……why would he be selected to start by those two, the coaches, if he is so poor??? He has been selected to start around 10 times out of 12 of our last matches

Now, he is not my favorite player and I do not think that Madsen is any Ray Wilkins but he is nowhere near as bad as many think, a very long way from it – worth a place in the starting 11, currently for sure, even keeping Sam Field off the field for the whole game. And by the way, those who cheered him sarcastically today should be ashamed of themselves.

Early kick offs can lead to early drinking…..

I know you’re a fan of his but…… seriously?

I’ve said elsewhere I thought today was one of his best games but he’s still got bundles to do.
He gets picked due to his transfer fee in my book.
For a fella of his size he doesn’t affect games enough and if his technique and football brain is on another level then I don’t see it.

If he adapts in the next couple of months and becomes a mainstay and a game changer then absolutely fair play to him.

We’ll see

Agree he played well, ball to Smyth in 1st half was a peach. No doubt our best passer but can be a luxury.

"...the uneducated supporter" is a very snobbish thing to say, Gazza.

I agree with a lot of your views, but that doesn't make either of us educated.

Let's just enjoy today.

Well yeah if he always played like he did today the majority would rate him so you’d be finding reasons to say he’s crap for attention instead.

We won the game thanks to Saito,

We've struggled against two very poor teams at home,

We struggled to dominate possession, created very very few chances and are hoping our big money playmaker signing comes good,

Let's just hope he does ( by the way was a poor free kick, no where near enough to the post and to close to the Keeper for an easy save)

Kone feds off scraps all game as we lacked a quality passer until Saito came on, great finish to close the game mind.

Always best when trying to make a point, not to insult the whole message board in the first sentence. 😄

He played well today . Got it and gave it quickly . Put his foot in and covered well.
Thought he had a decent game . When people show for him quickly and he plays one touch football he looks a decent player.

Let’s not get too carried away though . The bar is low and trying to tell the rest of the fanbase that when he stinks the place out , everyone else isn’t watching properly is maybe a step too far .
Chuffed for him today more than anything . He now needs to be consistent.

More people rooting for him than you or he realises I think .

He did ok today, but talking on the way home I can't help but think part of the problem is at best he's ok, when he's not up to his best he seems to end up being carried by the team. Good at set pieces though and can pass well, but doesn't help the team much if we're struggling to get a foot hold in the game.

I think most can see there's a player there which is what makes him so frustrating, if he could add some intensity to his game he'd be far more effective and that seems to be most people's view of him. Fingers crossed he can do that.

I think you’ll find it was the only gap in the wall, anything wider would have been blocked

And then no doubt that would also be wrong

Jeez

For some reason, Jimmy Dunne was having a go at him at the end. We should be patient.

I think there's only been two or three posters digging him out today. I've seen more give a balanced view acknowledging that he had a decent game. It's always quiet on here after a win. Misery loves company.

It's always quiet after a home game, Streatham.

Especially when we win and go on the lash.

Oh ya...I see your point..

The riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

Can play really classy passes, little flicks to break the press. And then does something that leaves you scratching your head thinking 'what the f@ck was that?".

Today he was good. Was putting himself about, passes finding their man, winning tackles and headers. Varane looked the junior of the two.
More importantly he keeps the ball moving quickly, very rarely takes a 3rd touch unlike Varane and Field.

If you want a team that goes forward we need a player like Madsen. Wouldn't play him away from home mind.

Don't care about Dunne having a pop at him after the 3rd goal. That's what a captain should do, demand more. Standards eh?

At the moment I think he adds something different to the team. He is quite tricky and can certainly pick a pass when allowed time and space. He got at least one (nearly) assist today. I think he oculd have scored from a free kick in the first half also. ...

I'd suggest you read today's match thread which for the most part was very complimentary. Which it generally is when he does well.

I thought he had his best game for us. We all know he is a good passer but today he was also much better defensively and actually won tackles and headers.

There were one or two promising shoots today, not least from the homecoming Saito, but Dunne was very average indeed at RB and diabolical against Cov. He needs to be digging himself out first before he starts on Madsen.

Unfortunately, this has club MUST have a boo boy and we have many over the years and no matter how they perform on any given day it is not good enough in some peoples eyes

I feel sorry for Madsen because with Celar now gone he will be the main target of the trolls. Hopefully he can continue his performance today after the break and we get to enjoy good performances from him that he has shown glimpses of

Even I have my boo boy so I am guilty too but mine is Walsh and its so frustrating seeing Nardi just sat there but there we go

Do you know what Madsen needs?

No posts on him for a few weeks.

We're all analysing him in detail (me included) and all looking to score points against those who disagree with us.

Let's give him ten games and then re-evaluate

Gazza,

I enjoy your take on things buy that is poor form.

Last season he was broadly poor, especially so for how much he cost.

He does have weaknesses in his game. It’s silly to ignore them. Technically he looks very good, but you and I know midfield has a lot more to it than a pretty diag.

I thought he had one his best games for us. Started well, very good for the first half hour, including off the ball where he showed far more than he ever has done for us. He faded though as the game went on. The position he was taking up was very deep and very close to Mbengue which invites them on. Him and Varane disappeared from the game for much of the first half an hour of the second half.

That’s not to say he was poor today. He wasn’t. But he isn’t better than most of our players. He’s done nothing to justify that praise. He still needs to work harder, be more physical and not hide when the oppo is on top. But he is increasingly displaying his passing skills, which is good.

Encouraging, but a lot more to do. We ceded control of the midfield for most of that game to a pretty poor Charlton side, so I don’t think Varane and Madsen have cracked it by a long way.

Even the 'uneducated fans' want Madsen to turn into the player he could be, but you can't gloss over his performances last season. I have sat there and focused on him during matches, clapping every positive touch and willing him to do well.

Gazza I know you posted with the intention of drawing debate but it's a tough one to argue Madsen has offered much to date.

I thought Madsen was a good player when he first joined us, he then lost confidence and his place in the team. Came back at the end of last season and did very well scoring and assisting playing mainly further forward than where he's played this season. Think he has done ok in the defensive midfield role, we need someone who can move the ball forward which he does, he's tidy on the ball, picks out great long balls forward like that one for Smyth today he couldn't control, and he seems to learning the defensive part of the game.
