Rest of the Championship thread 11:07 - Aug 10 with 339048 views | Hunterhoop | Toyed with this idea last season. Shall we have a thread to discuss, comment on, cover the rest of the league? A place to discuss other teams’ results, performances, financial implosions, etc? For example, last night, anyone catch either of the first two games? I didn’t. But somewhat surprised/worried Blackburn scored 4 given how they are meant to struggle. Was it Derby being utter sh*te? Sounds like Preston are continuing in the same vein of being incredibly dull. Clive, what do you think? Worth making a sticky? Might reduce the number of threads to manage.

Rest of the Championship thread on 15:27 - Apr 23 by Northernr | I just think with Farke, he won the division in pretty fine style with Norwich twice, then both times they went into the Prem and it was a disaster. I don't think it's as crazy as it sounds to replace him at this point. Lots of people said Bournemouth were mad getting rid of Gary O'Neil when they did... |
There's a massive gulf between the top of the Championship and the Premier League now, so any team going up is going to struggle. Look at the three promoted sides this year, all relegated a long time before the end of the season, none of them even managed to put up a fight. I just don't really understand the logic behind the idea that a manager is great in one division, but then suddenly becomes useless with the same players in a different division. A good example is Kompany, he was a good championship manager, but then apparently wasn't any good in the Premier League. But now suddenly he's about to win the Bundesliga with Bayern, so it really was all about having good enough players to compete at the top level.

Is it fair to say that none of Ipswich Leicester and Southampton blew big bucks on players this season? So maybe they're adapting the yo yo approach, cash the money and hopefully come up with squads that can survive the Prem for a few seasons.

Ipswich's £150m incomings in the summer may slightly disagree The gulf is very much real

Ah OK. Wow. Seems like a lot of money for mainly average players! But I suppose that is the PL these days...

To those kind Cardiff fans who jeered our misery as our coaches departed the Millennium Stadium in May 2003: this one's for you, boyos. Enjoy. And to Andy Campbell too.

Yeah, they were fking appalling in victory. Constant abuse on the way out of the ground and as we were leaving the car park and on the way out of town. Then you have the hotel alarm incident, refusal to play the national anthem, insisting on having the home kit and dressing room because they genuinely considered themselves to be the home team. Fk ‘em. [Post edited 26 Apr 18:35]

Cardiff are no different, except possibly they have a few more than most. I won't ever forget leaving the Millenium Stadium, admittedly, but was that really their fans? Surely their fans were in the stadium celebrating straight after the final whistle. Local rent a yob more like. Also - I am sure I wasn't the only one walking away from Wembley post Zamora who saw our own "fans" giving the Derby coaches a pretty vile send off. You can't judge fan bases on days like these, when 20,000 more suddenly appear from nowhere. I am much more concerned about Wrexham being in our league with all their hangers on and the media obsession. I am really hoping that the Championship brings them down to earth with a bang. Nailed on our first game of the season will be at the Ryan Reynolds Arena and we get drowned under the circus.

Mad how they won 3 of the last 4 which looked like it would be enough and still went down with a game to play, at least they went down fighting I suppose. Rooney really did do a number on them.

If only they sacked him off a game earlier. Real shame they're not going to make it. If they had QPR last game, they may have had a chance of turning the GD around 😆. If Marti does leave I really wouldn't be too disappointed if we seeked out Miron Muslic as a replacement. [Post edited 27 Apr 14:18]

All very fair points but regardless, hope they rot and fall further forever. Intrigued what Wrexham do now. Lots of players there who were needed to get them up but probably aren’t still up to this level. Deep pockets but how deep for this league?
