As they have already started, we need a thread. Suspect most of these will be wrong/clickbait sites, but lets store them in one place.

I am wondering if the fiscal mumbo-jumbo are factoring into CN's entertaining of a fee for Charlie. Would be interesting to see what the luton and MLSD bids look like.

Im sure Christain will give us all a full update at the fans forum.......

Don’t understand our direction.

Carlton Morris is an established player at this level and would have cost £500k less than this fella. Granted he’d be a bigger wage but that £500k saved would surely cover the wage excess for at least a year. Think there’s only a year or two between them and that’s assuming this fellas birth certificate is an original.

Confused to put it mildly.

Agree completely.

A player who not only knows this league but also managed to score 11 premier league goals for Luton. Good signing by Derby and there's a lower risk attached to that signing than our apparent decision to sign Ba from Schalke along with the injury-prone player from Colchester: Tovide, whose numbers in league 2 are hardly stellar.

Both players being seemingly signed at the expense of nigh-on 50 plus league games played last season and now physically strong and fit Kelman. Wouldn't be surprised if one of the few real talents from the development squad: Kolli, goes too.

Why £500k less? He signed for an undisclosed fee. It could have been double or treble what we may pay for Ba.

Also to point out if Morris is on £20k pw - which I'd imagine would be a conservative estimate - it'll cost £3m over his three year contract in wages alone. He'll be just short of 33 when that contract expires.

If Ba signs a 3 year contract on £10k pw it'll cost £1.5m in wages. It would be a far smaller % of the P&S headroom than Morris, even if Morris were free (which he wasn't) and Ba costs us £500k.

Based on a very brief encounter I had with Kelman, he doesn’t strike me as the type to down tools if things don’t go his way contractually or with a transfer.

He’s a different player to Kelman 2023. I’d start him and work around him any way I could for at least ten games.

Me too but, at the risk of over simplification, the only way to maintain my sanity if Kelman goes is to assume [underline 'assume' please Audrey] either:

- We've received an offer too big to turn down
And/Or
- He wants to go

I really believe he would do ok or better for us next season, but the higher the offer the more of a financial gamble it is to turn that down and keep him. So I don't feel inclined to grab my pitchfork without knowing there's a reason to tbh.

If he has a good season and we finish 10th, contract extension to Charlie in the push for the play offs or better.

Think that makes the club more attractive to him.

That would be far from a disaster, it would justify keeping him.

We won't finish tenth though...
[Post edited 24 Jul 23:26]

Bright Osayi Samuel left for free after a season we finished 9th.

Anyone on their last year who can be sold who won't sign must be sold. But we don't know if he's in last year because blah blah competitive advantage.

If we assume that Kelman has 1 year left, which as Notf says, is far from guaranteed, then for him and his agent it’s a perfect time to get his long term future settled.

Off the back of a tear in the fabric of reality season if Luton, flush with parachute money still are offering a long term lucrative deal of course they’d have to consider it.

Either he smashes it again and quickly comes back up with a club capable of going up again or even gets a better move. If he flops, his future is financially assured,

It’s a huge gamble to back himself and stay here this season.

BOS left in Jan when we were higher than 9th, so a bit different. 'Anyone in their last year must be sold' I agree if we always did that. But we don't. Neither Dunne nor Paal were sold this time last year, for example

IMO it's a bigger gamble for us to lose him, given our current striker situation. I am not expecting miracles from him. If he stays injury - free and bags 10 goals I would be happy. He is contracted to us, so we can block his departure if we choose to do so. Others on here who have actually spoken to him, don't consider him a "down tools' sort of guy.

It’s got nothing to do with “downing tools”. It’s more, can we afford to let him go on a free. If he stays, the chances of him leaving on a free increase significantly…..no matter how the season goes.

Huh? So because we've made expensive mistakes in the past (BOS, Manning, Willock etc.) that have cost us millions in lost revenue, we should just keep doing it?

It was pretty well documented that they spent all summer trying to get shot of Paal 12 months ago and found no takers. Dunne ended up signing an extension so you have to assume they were always confident they wouldn't lose him on a free and they were right, because they didn't.

I saw a report suggesting the Ba deal was about £450k; he's probably a lot cheaper than Morris.

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

I'm not suggesting that at all. I agree we tried and failed to sell Paal. But there was not even a suggestion of selling Dunne 12 months ago. Also we simply do not know that Kelman is in the final year of his contract

If we are bringing in another striker, it will be either that Celar is off (rumours last season his wife was unsettled) or we’re cashing in on Kelman as the Eze deal is no further down the line of progression. The manager was brought in to manage the 3 game weeks so perhaps he’s suggesting a rotational 3-4 strikers to cover these high demand weeks. Much happier with this than our approach last year playing Lloyd and Kolli who both should’ve gone on loan.

It has been said on here somewhere that due to Luton's relegation, they will no longer receive parachute payments.

But Dunne signed a new contract. We didn't lose him on a free. Plus there was about 2 weeks of constant speculation that he was being sold that culminated in a pretty stressful deadline day in January.

If they're looking at selling Kelman... It's highly likely to be becasue he's in the last year of his contract and he's not showing enough signs that he'll extend it. If that's the case, they simply have to sell him.

The club have to decide whether to sell now at his highest stock to date or offer a new deal and the risk is he doesn’t translate his form, his value dips and we’re back to where we were with him 2 seasons ago

Agree. He is 23yo and had one good season on L1, that is it.

We have to strike while the iron is hot and get as large a transfer fee as possible, with a hefty % sell on.

It makes me laugh though that a striker who has never scored for us is generating near hysteria from some.

Some just need to learn to trust the process and the project.

Once again, very rich for you to be telling everybody to chill out and trust the process and the project when we had to sit through you slating the team all last season even after they'd won.

Before last season with Kelman's record of failure wherever he was loaned most on here wanted him put on a free and were up in arms he was given a new contract. Lot of short memories. There must be a reason none of our managers have rated him.

If Kelman won't sign a new deal (understandable) and a decent offer is on the table then we should cash in.
I'd rather keep him, but if he starts scoring without that contract then he will walk for free in the summer.

We need to sell players, always. If it's for anything above £2m then we take the money and invest
