More of a winger than a striker. Was highly regarded at Shamrock Rovers when he was 15, 16. The Italian experience has not worked out and Roma are happy to let him leave. As I said above, he had a trial with Sligo Rovers a couple of weeks ago and scored a nice goal against Mansfield in a friendly. If 'we' (Sligo Rovers) signed him I would be delighted. If 'we' (QPR) signed him, not so much.He is not t he answer to our goalscoring issues and we are not stuck for wingers

I just want one who scores 15 a season and works hard. If he's great with kids, cooks a decent risotto and enjoys ironing then even better.

You're not looking for a striker, you're looking for a husband!

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 15:18 - Jul 24 by Landshark | From this article it seems like he was deployed as number 10 for Schalke which didn't suit him and he also doesn't have the ability to play striker. (Translated from German) "Now, Pape Meissa Ba no longer fits into coach Miron Muslic's system and is therefore among the candidates for the S04 cut . The coach recently deployed the striker as a number ten – a role that doesn't suit the 28-year-old. The technical deficiencies in ball control and passing were all too evident in this position during the test matches and training sessions. Pape Meissa Ba lacks the assertiveness in one-on-one duels to play as a striker. He was consistently second to the ball, especially on high balls." I'm not going to write him off before I have seen him play but it seems a strange signing from the outside. |
Don’t understand our direction. Carlton Morris is an established player at this level and would have cost £500k less than this fella. Granted he’d be a bigger wage but that £500k saved would surely cover the wage excess for at least a year. Think there’s only a year or two between them and that’s assuming this fellas birth certificate is an original. Confused to put it mildly.
The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 17:39 - Jul 24 with 3749 views | dm97 | Any credible sources on the Kelman deal/fee? From WLS reporting it seems it’s this guy + Tovind rather than one or the other. Hoping that means the fee is decent

Wages are what drain club resources not transfer fees that be spread over the term of the contract agreed. We want to keep wages down, which Nourry has done. Signing lumps like Morris or Windass are completely the wrong thing to do.

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 19:12 - Jul 24 with 3155 views | FDC | I suppose you'd say we've looked pretty direct during preseason (although a lot of that against Cardiff was really just rushed clearances under the press), which would align with WLS reporting that we want more pace and power up top. That might also be a reason that we're willing to let Kelman go. https://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-wls-qpr-keen-on-colchester-forward Edit: I'm also now reminded of Bould shouting "hit the 9" during that training video and us all wondering who the 9 is. Maybe it's one of these two ! [Post edited 24 Jul 19:15]

I am getting the feeling that either Kelman or his agent or both want out of QPR. If that is the case we don't have much time to find a replacement. I think Kelman would be the natural no.1 this season but the lack of a contract extension feels like he wants out.

Exactly. If he won’t sign a new context and we get offers in, we have to seriously consider. Otherwise, we lose for nothing next summer.

It's a lose lose situation. Sell him now and make some money but piss off the fans or take the risk this season and then he leaves for free next summer which will piss off the fans. We should take the money and invest in players that might want to be at QPR.

There is actually no guarantee that Kelman’s contract is up next summer, btw.
The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 21:01 - Jul 24 with 2281 views | numptydumpty | Kelman could be sold and he does nothing Kelman stays and he does nothing Kelman stays and is on fire Kelman is sold and rips it up Risks either way and his replacements are a risk too. Personally i would keep and see where we go this season. But thats not happening. Feel sadly he is on his way. We shall see if its right or not but a big gamble !!! [Post edited 24 Jul 21:02]

Didn't he get an updated contract before going on loan to Orient?

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 21:07 - Jul 24 with 2235 views | BazzaInTheLoft | Based on a very brief encounter I had with Kelman, he doesn’t strike me as the type to down tools if things don’t go his way contractually or with a transfer. He’s a different player to Kelman 2023. I’d start him and work around him any way I could for at least ten games.

I agree. But if he really is in last year of contract, he has a good season and we finish 10th and he then leaves for nothing. What then? Club looks foolish.

If he has a good season and we finish 10th, contract extension to Charlie in the push for the play offs or better. Think that makes the club more attractive to him. That would be far from a disaster, it would justify keeping him. We won't finish tenth though... [Post edited 24 Jul 23:26]

But you are entirely assuming he agrees to sign. You might as well set fire to several million quid or chuck it down the lav. If he won’t re sign now, why would he re-sign months down the line? If (very hypocritically) we were riding high and he was scoring goals, his agent will literally be telling him you can get an even bigger salary now elsewhere

I think you'll find that despite his winner at Deepdale, we released Jesus last month.
