As they have already started, we need a thread. Suspect most of these will be wrong/clickbait sites, but lets store them in one place.

I get that point, of course, James. It's the Kyle Walker argument.

I'm not in favour of it. I don't think it should be how we build this club, we should be good enough at recruitment and coaching to not have to develop opponents' players, but of course I get the argument.

Alfie Tuck has just been sent on loan to Hampton & Richmond for three months.

We definitely need someone in that CM, but agree we shouldn't be loaning in.

Well if Larkeche hadn’t done his ACL, we wouldn’t have brought anyone in. So, given time, I think we’ve gone for cheap and quick option as cover

Quite so, James, it's the reason that has brings us to this situation.

Unless of course, ZL was having a second one torn each week and we might have needed a pre-1 September rethink.

All this being said, at the back of my mind is the need to ensure Essie and his pals in the all conquering DS squad, secure decent loans now, so they leave us as boys and return as battle hardened men.

I have to say, at this point like Bazza I'd rather put all my faith in Esquerdina, and fill in with players we have as necessary.

It's a risky strategy but I think he's got enough quality to be worth the gamble - that one superb early cross he put in last week was enough to convince me, along with his pace to recover. There's loads to work on yes but hadn't he already played 11 senior games for Fluminese before coming to us? Something like that anyway.

CM is the one I really want to be bored about reading rumours about.

Is it out of the question for Esquerdinha (glad my phone now auto spells that one) to be our starter there but to have a loan as back up? Or is the assumption that any loan comes with strings attached where they have to start?

My impression is that SU are happy to get ND off their payroll and the loan won't be expensive and without too much restriction.

Why did we let Fox go if we are so desperate for an experienced left back? Would have saved us the loan fee and putting minutes into opponent’s legs for them?
[Post edited 23 Aug 11:47]

Money?

Fox was getting skinned last season. Not good enough, out of contract, and expensive.
Need I go further.

The championship has lots of games. Esquerdinha and RND will both get a decent amount of game time. You can't except a player to play 46 games regardless of position, age or experience, except maybe a GK. We needed a stop gap for the season and looks like we're getting one.

On another point, RND is very decent at this level WHEN FIT, which is the main concern. But if we can get him playing some decent minutes then we've got a very handy player here for the season.

If we're assuming that he's going to be fit for 2/3 of the games that's sort of ideal no? He's probably today a better option than Esquerdinha which gives us a better chance of winning games but at the same time that ensures Esquerdinha gets a decent chunk of games under his belt this year to help settle him and aid his development. In some ways better than bringing in someone we expect to play 44 games this year.

Last season club was crucified for not having a reserve left back.

Now we are potentially getting one and club being crucified by some for that, too - only QPR fans…

Agree with all of this except the "only QPR fans" bit, I'm afraid this is par for the course everywhere now!

Problem with this of course is that we've only loaned a handful of Kyle Walker difference maker types and a whole load of complete dross. Odds are not in our favour here...

RND on the bench today for Sheffield United so maybe he's not coming.

If he really believed in his own project, Nourry should come out on Monday and say "We will not be signing any left backs or centre backs on loan, for to play one ahead of Esquerdinha would piss on everything the club has said for the last 18 months. Forza Bazza In The Loft! It's Esquerdinha, Leahy or bust! "

See how that goes down. I suspect, however, there will be loans and new signings galore through the door between now and Monday week. And if we lose to Charlton, that won't be the only thing through the door.

I bet everyone is glad it's open training on Tuesday.

I’d like to reiterate we need to be signing Ronnie asap.
We can’t play 46 games with Cook and expect to stay up. No disrespect to Cook he’s a good guy, a real leader, but his legs have completely gone.

The thing with Cook is that theoretically he should be the wise head in the centre of defence that we need, especially if we persist with Walsh, who you really have to feel for - what a torrid time the young lad is having, and what a disaster yesterday was for his clearly tattered confidence. Yet, he doesn't look an authoritative figure at all this season, perhaps because he is struggling with his own form and fitness. I keep saying it, but it was clear to me in the preseason fixtures that Cook looked a completely different player, visible out of shape against Toulouse I thought, and generally lethargic like his mind is elsewhere. Perhaps behind the scenes factors relating to his supposedly begrudging contract extension are a factor, I don't know. But we are clearly missing some grit and organisation at the back. Whether Ronnie would be the answer to that or whether we need to sign someone with more experience like a Cook v2.0 I don't know.

A few people have posted about the first rule of building a team being getting the spine right, and reflecting on it this morning that seems like the big problem to me, right through from the keeper to the midfield. Whether we have something up front that could work, in Kone and Burrell, we don't yet know. But we do know that the rest of it is just too fragile.

Even if we can afford Edwards, though, would he want to come? He'd get minutes, which he isn't at Southampton, but no player wants to be associated with the punchline team of the league. In terms of their own value and career progression, they'd be better off staying put.

Look at Morrison – a talented player, but now probably worth less every time he plays for us. Look at Varane, also talented, but not getting any sort of move, despite the club obviously being very much open to offers. Look at our injury list. Which bit of this says "come to QPR"?

The irony is that Nourry has got his job on the promise to do one thing, which is making players worth much more than they were when they come to us. And yet the only example of that has been Kelman, whose value dramatically shot up in a season where, oh yeah, he wasn't actually playing for us.

Meanwhile, the only reason we now have money to spend is Eze, a player who left the building 5 years ago. For all the faults of the set-up under Les, he was always clearly a very special player, that the club had done well to identify, who was also then well managed by senior people then at the club.

If he was here now, and involved in games like yesterday, who'd be paying ÂŁ20mn for him? As it stands, the real lucky break for the club is that our best player in the last decade came through in what is now a different era.

Excellent post.

I’ll say it again, players don’t increase in value if they are playing for a bad team getting battered regularly. And they certainly don’t increase in value sitting on the bench. Kelman increased in value because another club played him and improved his all round game. Their coaches, their fitness guys, them…not us.

Dembele has regressed since arriving. Nardi is certainly worth less now we’ve binned him off. Have Varane and Morrison improved much? Madsen and Celar haven’t. Why do we think Poku and Kone will improve?

You need to blood your high potential players into a stable environment with experienced pros around them, in a system everyone can execute competently, in order to maximise their development and ultimately their value.

And no one is worth a lot more if we are relegated.

Been banging on about the blend of the squad for ages.

Nepo Baby just doesn’t seem to get it.
I’d be banging on the door of Ronnie Edwards agent next week and then seeing what dependable warhorses I can get in for the season.

This should’ve been happening years ago.
Bollox to your FFP and PSR argument; these rules could’ve and can be circumnavigated by billionaires well connected in business circles and with a passion and plan for their club. Unfortunately our owners just get more disinterested, distant and clueless with h each passing month.

WLS reporting a deal has been made this morning to bring back Saito for around ÂŁ2.8 M. Think we need him with the injuries to Chair and Poku, and because he is better than we have on that left side both offensively and defensively.

One small thing I did notice yesterday regarding Cook and leadership , was that when Jimmy went off , he gave the armband to Sam Field.

Listen , none of them acted like leaders yesterday , but it suggests something is up behind the scenes . Cook was captain last Saturday .
It could be nothing , but these things usually mask a bigger problem behind the curtain .

And I think we all now hand to accept there is one .

Too much for me, cheaper to tie Smyth down to a new contract and invest in centre mid.

Thing is Saito and Smyth don’t get cramp after 60 mins, or 67 yesterday. Saito is a good decision
