Marti, stick or twist? 18:34 - Apr 18 with 66781 viewsGloucs_R

I'm really hoping all of the rumours about Marti leaving at the end of the season are untrue.

Consistency is absolutely key for us.

I think he's doing a decent job, definitely had his challenges this year.

What is everyone else's view?

Gary O'Neill would be my alternative if he were to depart. But I would much rather he was here next season.

Poll: Are we staying up?

Like Joni Mitchell, I've looked at life from both sides now!

Have you never written a college essay where you've prosecuted a thesis by entertaining a counter-thesis? Or just the idea that life isn't black and white, and managers are both honest and dishonest?

But glad my counter-thesis helps consolidate your view that MC isn't to be trusted.

That is special.

There is only 1 view that you’ve helped consolidate and it’s nothing to do with Marti

Really hope Loftus Road gives its opinion on Saturday, both to Marti and to Nourry. Bit like that home game earlier in the season, was it Coventry? The fans' actions then allegedly saved Marti. Could happen again....if it wasn't for a sleepy 12:30 kick off, end of season dead rubber.

At least the Marti flag, please flag people? Especially if it is the last time we are going to see him in that dugout at Loftus Road.

Obviously would love the story to be untrue because Marti is the best thing to happen to this club in a very long time. However, Nourry preventing access to Marti says a lot about their relationship.

They'll probably bring Ainsworth back.

I've been saying this for a year now.

QPR are never shy about swinging their dick when they've got a dick to swing. Kieran Morgan has half a dozen good games - piece in The Athletic.

Last season ended brilliantly. We were playing well, thrashing Leeds, we stayed up. There was a lot of external praise and a lot of internal optimism. The manager was more popular than any manager here since Warnock.

And yet, when we tried to book in an interview with him that has been a regular fixture for ten years, they obfuscated, they kicked it down the road, they said it was fine but they wanted to talk to me first, and then they didn't do that until the week before the season started at which point it was made clear I could have pretty much any member of the coaching staff except him.

Fan forum, manager not there. I can't ever recall that happening. Nourry went up by himself, got the club's head of customer services to "interview" him, and tried to distract with a whole load of pre-arranged contract announcements.

We were told then that there would be another similar forum later in the season where you could ask questions of "people on the football side of the business".

This was raised again at the fan sites meeting in January and we were told "yeh, there's an announcement about that... I think, is it next week? Next week."

They said nothing until March at which point they said you could email them questions, they'd pick the ones that weren't too bad, ask them to a variety of the coaching staff, record and edit that tape, and put it out on the official website. Expect lots from the head of methodology (coach), head of goalkeeping (goalkeeper coach).

And even that. Even that. Hasn't happened. We're a week before the end of the season, no sign of it.

This has been an enormous red flag all the way through. I've said it so often. They've got a popular manager who the fans love, and they won't let anybody within 500 yards of him. Why is that? That's not a relationship that's going well. You're afraid of what he's going to say.

From what you may or may not have heard, what is the source of the conflict specifically do you think?

Recruitment? Coaching? Comms? I assume it would be some kind of encroachment.

Well, Ian's picked out a couple of things in his piece.

Him pushing back against a set piece coach after Nourry had already appointed head of methodology, independent development coach, head of goalkeeping, head of performance etc.

The ridiculous situation with said head of performance, who Nourry is tight as arse cheeks with, being allowed to work remotely.

I think, as ever, the manager wants more control. QPR are reluctant to give it to him. I've been just about the biggest proponent of that approach here since Hughes and Redknapp were allowed to charge about wrecking the joint - what manager wants manager gets does not work here.

But, as 1JD says brilliantly above, how typically QPR that they finally put their foot down on that when you've got a half decent manager, and you've smashed your CEO and DOF roles into one and given it to somebody straight out of uni who's never done either job before.

What the fck is he still doing here btw?? His job was finance, something he was brought on for initially and personally I thought did a good and sensible job of, why is he still here doing something different or being involved in the football side of things at all?

I'm old enough to remember Lee Hoos telling us he was a numbers and figures guy who didn't know football, so having Les to do that role was just great.

Those 2 reasons above can cause frustration but reasons to walk out the door? Seems a bit of an overreaction. Is the medical guy phoning it in next season too?

Coming soon...
'CEO Christian Nourry would like to remind fans that they have until 9PM to submit their chants for approval ahead of Saturday's match against Burnley. Decisions over volume and references to foodstuffs, alcoholic branding and antipathy towards other clubs will be made in committee. Jude the Cat will be made available to discuss club policy in the upcoming Supporters Progressive Unity & Reconciliation Model (SPURM) meeting to be held in the 2041 close season.'

The whole thing's mad,I don't know why, you have to laugh, or else you cry...

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

Well it's tense on both sides. The club think he put it about for other jobs last summer, Burnley and Sunderland. And they don't think our injuries have been that bad this season, they reckon we're about midtable for injuries we/he just talk about it a lot more.

It's your standard relationship breakdown.

Nourry is clearly a bright guy. He went to St Paul’s in Barnes and then Oxford I believe. But his delivery of what he’s trying to do for the club is unbelievably poor. We have been through every style of manager and we finally have a good one who we need to back with the right tools to take us to the new level. My concern is that the board have been swayed by Nourry with his background and take everything he says as gospel. You’ll be amazed how many on the board I’m sure are simply impressed he went to St Paul’s and Oxford. They’re the kind of establishments that members of the board would be desperate for their own sons to go to. I’m still yet to be convinced by Nourry and if Marti is driven out then there will be a lot of disgruntled people around West London this summer. I think Marti has done very well given the circumstances this season. But I will say it again. We cannot have another season where the objective is simply to stay in the league. We don’t take the cups seriously. So what is there to look forward to each season as a fan?

I get your point, but surely in this day and age no employer is impressed just because of an old school tie?

I went to St Paul's, admittedly 25 years before Nourry, and I can assure you that going there does not mean you are intelligent. It means your parents can afford the fees.

From my experience, It can also make it quite likely that you turn out to be a complete and utter c***.

It will be very interesting to see Nourry’s direction with the next head coach. MC will be tough to replace not just because he’s managed to spin a club previously in putrid, sustained rotting form into something resembling promotion form pretty much over night, but also because of his popularity.

I can smell a return to Beale / Critchley form around the corner. If we’re in the bottom three in October with a new head coach that hasn’t resonated with the fans as well as Marti has… my goodness I can’t even imagine how toxic that would get. I think that’s the point you’ll see large factions of fans turn on Nourry with aggressive gusto.

Hope you know what you’re doing kiddo.

Yes you are totally right there. Marti is clearly by far the most popular manager since Warnock and if we go back to the old model of employing rubbish then the atmosphere at the club will be venomous.

To hasten things along? To make it publicly clear he's off? To issue a "come and get me" plea? Couple of Championship jobs have come up this week already at West Brom and Norwich.

To get the messaging out there, to future employers and fans, that you're a talented manager who's been working with his hands tied behind his back. First strike in inevitable blame game.

To jeopardise any carefully choreographed post-season communications strategy put together by the guy you don't get on with around a "mutual parting of the ways"?

To get it out while there's still a home game left, in the hope the fans come out in big support and rail up against the board?

There's lots of potential reasons. But, yeh, okay, it makes no sense because in the official post match press conference Marti said they were gonna have a meeting.

Off the top of my head, one of a couple of reasons:

1. You want Ruben to (again) step in, give CN an enormous slap and put him back in his box, or even better yet, see how popular you are and bin him off completely - unlikely imo, MC has fallen for this daft club but he isn’t going to do 5 years here.

2. You want to make a mockery of CN’s end of season farewell post (put together by a well paid PR consultant he’s has on staff for a year now) about what great pals you are and how you’ll be quaffing Rioja again soon when he returns - unlikely, and MC will go nuclear anyway as soon as he’s gone with his thoughts on CN

3. You want RG and/or CN to allow you to join another club for your previously agreed compensation figure, rather than digging in for the much higher one you signed last summer

4. Your agent, who spent the last international break working harder than the devil, has got you lined up with a new club and they’re interested in getting you in now for a few games to assess the squad before the summer, so you’d like to go now, with a payoff and no compensation required to QPR….

*edit*, Norf beat me to it 😂

There is/was no good faith meeting lined up.

MC & CN agreed some time ago (through his agent obviously as they don’t talk) exactly how much CN would pay MC to fck off at the end of the season.

Smells mostly like number 4 mixed in with some Teen Spirit.

Clearly some agent agitation at play as the managerial merry go round spins up builds up momentum and some choice alternatives open up.

The Sun will not publish without source(s) and this is easily consolidated and planted given the content was mostly already out there.

I mean I’m not much of a gambler, especially not related to QPR who routinely turn the sublime into the ridiculous, but a few days ago as posted my viewpoint was that i would be surprised if he was still here.

As Jeff correctly posted, CN will have been absolutely apoplectic last evening and undoubtedly spamming Malaysian numbers looking for authorisation to sack him, so I’d put myself at Jesus resurrecting level of shocked if MC & CN are both at the club working together next season.

One thing (of many) I don't understand about all this is why it seems so unlikely that Marti stays and Nourry goes. I know Nourry calls the shots, but he doesn't really...it is the owners. They are not blessed with a lot of skills in running the club and making decisions, as we all know, but surely it isn't impossible that they come to the conclusion that finding another Marti would be a lot harder (and more expensive) than finding a qualified DofF / CEO?

They have always been pretty sensitive to fan opinion too - some may say too much so.
