Marti, stick or twist? 18:34 - Apr 18 with 65809 views | Gloucs_R | I'm really hoping all of the rumours about Marti leaving at the end of the season are untrue. Consistency is absolutely key for us. I think he's doing a decent job, definitely had his challenges this year. What is everyone else's view? Gary O'Neill would be my alternative if he were to depart. But I would much rather he was here next season.

Marti, stick or twist? on 20:57 - Apr 21 with 2723 views | NorrisGreen | He's mentioned bettering last season's 56pts. Doubt we will frankly but it's a pretty spurious target anyway. Last season has Ainsworth's appaling contribution. Strip that out and Marti achieved 48pts from 32 games which is 1.5pts per game and extrapolates to 69pts over a full season. So, his points haul this season is pathetic by comparison and he has missed his personal target by a dozen points or more. He has patently gone backwards and you don't really need a calculator to see that. I think he should go. He just doesn't get the EFL.

Personally, I never heard of Marti until he arrived. So it is possible that if he was replaced we could again employ someone I have never heard of. Therefore your question is hard to answer as there are managers around the globe I am not aware exist.

I know. It’s almost as if we haven’t had one of our most pivotal players miss half the season and many notable others out with medium-to-long term injuries too and that when we did pretty much have a full squad to choose from we weren’t the form team in the division.

Have we tried: Whispering 'Marti... Maaaarti...' and then stopping when he turns round? A particularly suggestive Morris Dance? What about mime? In a scandalously revealing brown unitard? We could try sacrificing £30-worth of Bernard Matthews Turkey Dinosaurs at half time on the official club altar of diabolism? Send the Board a balloon full of farts? Get Dom Ball back? Actually, fcuk it, let's just do the last one. I may have had too much to drink this evening but my point still stands. Whatever it is. What? I'm not the bad guy here etc etc.

For a few extra quid we should just get individual balloons rather than sharing one.

what about the EFL doesn't he get? As for his points target he's said all season he wants to beat 56 points and finish higher than last seasonm, we've got 53 so we are not far off The backwards steps have been mostly due to half the squad being injured for long periods, given the players missing and some of the crap we signed, we've done well to be safe with several games to spare

Absolute tosh, couldn't disagree more. Good manager, not flawless of course, but also conducts himself like a grown-up and I don't see why he can't keep on improving either. I am sad to read from those more ITK than me that he most likely won't be here to do it with us, but if that is the case I will genuinely wish him well. A good man and just what we needed after the Ainsworth and Critchley debacles, although I suspect Critchley will prove that anyone who followed the long-haired maestro was receiving the hospital of all passes.

"He just doesn't get the EFL". I've said this before but I'll say it again. Please try to remember it because there might be a test : Marti's assistant, Xavi Calm, was previously a coach at Birmingham City. You know, the Birmingham City which is in - roll on the drums - the EFL. Just saying.

Marti, stick or twist? on 10:07 - Apr 20 by Padulas_Shampoo | Oh it’s our fault?! All makes sense now. All these years I’ve been trying to suppress us into a 16th place finish. Sorry Steve I can’t relate to this opinion AT ALL. The fans have been superb for 25 years and I would say even upped their game to another level since Covid. They’ve never wavered, kept plugging away, never given up, stood up and been counted even in the darkest of Beale / Critchley downward spirals. I have no idea what else you expect us to do to enforce some sort of higher expectation. I would argue the fans have been the only ones consistently doing their bit. Plus, in that 25 years you mention we’ve actually been promoted three times; twice to the Premier League. It really isn’t the fans’ fault that we spunked our budgets on the likes of Joel Lynch, Lyndon Dykes, Idrissa Sylla, Conor Washington, Ariel Borysiuk, Jordan Cousins, Heverton Santos, Macauley Bonne, Andre Dozzell, Taylor Richards and Tyler Roberts. I’d suggest that’s had more to do with the malaise than a fault in fans’ expectations. [Post edited 20 Apr 10:09]

Yeah the fans have been incredibly loyal the last few seasons, given how bad results have been. About as bad as is possible without actually getting relegated. Rewatching The Four Year Plan the other night in the 08/09 and 09/10 seasons we finished 11th and 13th respectively, which these days I think we'd be quite happy with. But back then there were protests and anger against the owners! Arguably all relative though; I think given the wealth of the owners then and the money being put into the club, the fans expected a more instant return on that investment (whether that was actually realistic or not).

I do think you have a point, Marti seems to think you can baller your way to success in the Championship without the non-sexy stuff like running/tackling/heading. I wish that was the case, but sadly it isn't. Bottom line is if he goes, who comes next and would they do any better? And would you trust the current board to select the right person anyway? Who knows, maybe they will?

We are just not a serious enough proposition for a top 6 challenge, mid table probably at best.
