Marti, stick or twist? 18:34 - Apr 18 with 74631 viewsGloucs_R

I'm really hoping all of the rumours about Marti leaving at the end of the season are untrue.

Consistency is absolutely key for us.

I think he's doing a decent job, definitely had his challenges this year.

What is everyone else's view?

Gary O'Neill would be my alternative if he were to depart. But I would much rather he was here next season.

You are missing the critical point. The strategy of DOF, which is an absolute must in the modern game, only truly works if you appoint someone who a. Has earned his stripes and b. Has proven his success.

However, if you appoint a lad 2-3 years out of uni, with no permanent full time job to speak of, never been on a payroll, and no background managing a team of 2, let alone 100+, then know it won’t likely end well.

There’s DOFs and then there’s that.

It still absolutely blows my mind.

What the fck is he still doing here btw?? His job was finance, something he was brought on for initially and personally I thought did a good and sensible job of, why is he still here doing something different or being involved in the football side of things at all?

Buty maybe it would just be his excuse if Marti were to choose to abandon us. Why do you assume that anyone in football, including managers, says what they mean?

As soon as coaches start telling you how honest they are, whether it's Marti or Warnock, my eyes start to roll. Most people dissimulate in one way or another, just because we all have an unconscious, and especially those in 'positions' or with 'names' to protect.

Why do you assume that anyone in football, including managers, says what they mean?

Haven’t you been banging on all season about an interview from around September by Marti where he says he’s happy with the squad etc and multiple people have tried to tell you that it’s manager talk , he’s towing the party line etc etc etc

And now you come out with that pearler!!!

It won’t end well…and it won’t end here .

Spending most days at the training ground . Got his own initialed coaches jacket, pacing up and down the touchline . Made CEO, self appointed DOF …next logical step is head coach isn’t it ? 🤪

I’m joking of course but you’re right, this was never going to end well

im not in the know, but i suspect lee hoos is just a figurehead who provides cover fire for the board

this isnt a sophisticated public company board with independent directors. the board comprises of shareholders who seem to make the big overall decisons by consensus. the average fan however would think that the chairman is somehow the head of the board. none of the shareholders wants that role b/c they are perceived to be in charge and get all the abuse from fans when things go wrong....

if youre ruben, whose lived his whole life with a silver spoon and probably gets treated like royalty in malaysia or amit who married into one of the richest families in the uk, you dont want to deal with fans abusing you non stop on twitter, etc

however, the shareholders dont want to bring in a bona fide independent person to be on the board b/c they want someone they know who they also know will toe the line and who they can kind of control....

so lee hoos sits on the board as the chairman and when stuff goes wrong, the fans direct their anger at him rather than ruben, amit etc etc

And so it begins

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/34606998/qpr-manager-marti-cifuentes-quit/?utm_me

this "article" is a good reminder of how lucky we are to have clive write match reports.

a first year journalism student at any university could whip together this article in about 20 minutes. its so shoddily, lazily written and im surprised anyone would actually pay for this. contrast thta to what clive does for free- match reports, previews, histories, etc

also, how does one infer cifuentes wants "assurances the club want to progress [to the prem]" from the generic quote below.... genuinely embarrassing

"And Cifuentes said after Monday's 2-1 home defeat by Swansea he wanted assurances the club want to progress to the next level having dropped out of the Premier League ten years ago.

The Spaniard said: “The supporters since I first came here have been amazing.

“But I would like to give them something else and not just celebrate another season in the Championship."

This is classic manager wants out, please someone come and make me an offer. Along with nourry wanting someone to come and make an offer. People from both sides pushing this I would suspect.

Marti leaves for somewhere new. Nourry doesn’t look quite as bad (though he should) and everyone moves on sadly.

We are such a fkn shitshow.

As a sincere question, do you not think it a touch unlikely that a local journo would risk blowing up his relationship with the club by going nuclear with an article in a national paper without it having been sourced and double sourced from *extremely* close to the topic of said article?

Like Joni Mitchell, I've looked at life from both sides now!

Have you never written a college essay where you've prosecuted a thesis by entertaining a counter-thesis? Or just the idea that life isn't black and white, and managers are both honest and dishonest?

But glad my counter-thesis helps consolidate your view that MC isn't to be trusted.

So why do this now?

If all Marti wants is to get his excuses in before walking away in the summer he could have waited until after the final game, or at least until after the final home game before slipping away quietly.

Doing it now looks like a powerplay. One of us has to go so back me or lose me!

Or does he just like kicking over hornets nests?

Obviously would love the story to be untrue because Marti is the best thing to happen to this club in a very long time. However, Nourry preventing access to Marti says a lot about their relationship.

They'll probably bring Ainsworth back.

I see what you’re saying but he could have gone ‘quietly’.

Very easy in the modern game to engineer this. Make it known through his people that he was unhappy and looking for a move. Demonstrate that he’s done a good job here under difficult circumstances- I am sure there is and would be takers (if not here then abroad.)

In answer to the first question; because we’re now safe. (Job done for the season?)

I agree this is a power play like the old-fashioned back me or sack me.

At least it shows he cares. As I replied above, he could have gone quietly.

As has been suggested (and I agree) this has indirectly come from MC I.e he has made it known he wants this out in the open.

It seems the club’s owners / board now have a straight choice between retaining MC or CN. I can’t see how they can work together now.

I hope that they make the right choice (MC obviously), I fear that they won’t.

It will be very interesting to see Nourry’s direction with the next head coach. MC will be tough to replace not just because he’s managed to spin a club previously in putrid, sustained rotting form into something resembling promotion form pretty much over night, but also because of his popularity.

I can smell a return to Beale / Critchley form around the corner. If we’re in the bottom three in October with a new head coach that hasn’t resonated with the fans as well as Marti has… my goodness I can’t even imagine how toxic that would get. I think that’s the point you’ll see large factions of fans turn on Nourry with aggressive gusto.

Hope you know what you’re doing kiddo.

I would assume the next football coach will have worked with a RETEXO client in some way. Marti was one too.

Someone has to change the sheets when the bed gets shat in.

I assume he’s nominated as the responsible adult in this scenario and probably why he’s still here.

Failing that logic, it’s usually money or he’s got some pictures of someone in a Gimp suit, sucking on a crack pipe.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?
