The remainder of his Toon contract will have been paid up to some extent; so it's not as if he's going to be short of a few bob. He won't realistically expect to continue earning comparable wages so he might be happy to get reasonable wages in lieu of getting more playing time.
However even if we were to bring him or Colbeck back are they fit?
Whatever preseason they've done, I doubt it would allow them to walk straight into any team and I suspect either would be a good few weeks off being ready. |

At the same time, I've seen people saying that he was on £50k a week at Newcastle, of which Portsmouth paid £6k - if that's anywhere near accurate then surely it'd be too big a step down to what we could afford.
The point about fitness is a good one, but from memory he was pretty consistently available when he was here previously, wasn't he? Also doubt he'd be the sort to slack off too much, wouldn't be surprised if he was training somewhere even as a free agent. He is a natural leader and a calm presence so if his wages aren’t too high I think he’d be a good one to have around what’s now a fairly young team. Certainly helped us last time with his experience. |  |

We've given long contracts to Larkeshe, Dunne and Field this summer and I don't think any of them have much resale value.
The priority with a new player shoiuld be does he improve the team and those around him, as a club we've become obssessed with how much we can later sell them for which rarley ends up being much anyway. Hayden on a free is a no brainer, adds depth to midfield and walks into the first team |  | | |

3 goals in 1557 minutes (36 appearances) last season according to Transfermarket. Not scored for Bristol since November. We did very well to get someone to pay for him but to get £2m is great business. I'll be surprised if he's higher than League Two by the time his contract with Bristol is up. | | | |
